The Past Perfect Continuous
       ഭൂതകാലത്തിലെ ഒരു സമയത്തു  തുടങ്ങി വളരെ നേരം തുടർന്ന് കൊണ്ടിരുന്ന ശേഷം ഭൂതകാലത്തിൽ തന്നെ  അവസാനിച്ച ഒരു കാര്യം പറയുന്നതിനാണ് The Past Perfect Continuous tense ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത്.
He had been working(അവൻ ജോലി ചെയ്തു കൊണ്ടേ ഇരുന്നു),
ചെയ്തു കൊണ്ടേ ഇരുന്നു,സംഭവിച്ചു കൊണ്ടേ ഇരുന്നു ഇങ്ങനെ "കൊണ്ടേ ഇരുന്നു"എന്ന അർത്ഥമാണ് ഇതുവഴി പ്രകടമാകുന്നത്.

Form of  Past Perfect Continuous
positive sentence
Sub +had + been + verb-ing
You had been going(നീ പോയി കൊണ്ടേ ഇരുന്നു)
She had been sleeping(അവൾ ഉറങ്ങികൊണ്ടേ ഇരുന്നു)
It had been rainingമഴ പെയ്തു(കൊണ്ടേ ഇരുന്നു)

Negative form:
Sub +had not  + been + verb-ing
I had not been trying (ഞാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചുകൊണ്ടെ ഇരുന്നില്ല)
You had not been working (നീ ജോലി ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ടേ ഇരുന്നില്ല)
It had not been snowing മഞ്ഞു പെയ്തുകൊണ്ടേ ഇരുന്നില്ല)

Interrogative sentences
Had +sub + been + verb-ing
Had I been working?(ഞാൻ ജോലി ചെയ്തു കൊണ്ടേ ഇരുന്നോ ?)
Had you been sleeping?(നീ ഉറങ്ങികൊണ്ടേ ഇരുന്നോ?)
Had she been reading?(അവൾ വായിച്ചു കൊണ്ടേ ഇരുന്നോ?)

The Past Perfect Continuous tense ഉപയോഗം

 1.ഭൂതകാലത്തിലെ ഒരു കാര്യം സംഭവിച്ചതിന് മുൻപുള്ള കാര്യം പറയുന്നതിന് ( Duration Before Something in the Past)
Ram had been waiting for two hours when I arrived.
(ഞാൻ എത്തിയപ്പോളേക്കും റാം രണ്ടു മണിക്കൂർ വെയിറ്റ് ചെയ്തു കൊണ്ടേ ഇരുന്നു-ഇവിടെ രണ്ടു കാര്യങ്ങളും ഭൂതകാലത്തിൽ സംഭവിച്ചതാണ്)

They had been talking for over an hour before Tony arrived.
(ടോണി എത്തിച്ചേരുന്നതിനു മുൻപായി അവർ ഒരു മണിക്കൂറിലേറെയായി സംസാരിച്ചികൊണ്ടേ ഇരുന്നു)

How long had you been waiting to get on the bus?(ബസ് കിട്ടുന്നതിനായി നീ എത്ര നേരം കാത്തു കൊണ്ടേ ഇരുന്നു?)

2.ഭൂതകാലത്തിൽ സംഭവിച്ച ഒരു കാര്യത്തിന്റെ കാരണം പറയുന്നതിന്  past perfect continuousഉപയോഗിക്കാം (Cause of Something in the Past)

John was very tired. He had been running.(ജോൺ ക്ഷീണിതനാണ് കാരണം അവൻ ഓടികൊണ്ട് ഇരിക്കുവാരുന്നു)

Sam gained weight because he had been overeating.
(സാമിന്‌ വെയ്റ്റ് കൂടിയിട്ടുണ്ട് കാരണം അവൻ അമിതമായി കഴിച്ചു കൊണ്ടേ ഇരുന്നു)

3.Past continuous ലും, present perfect continuous ലും പറഞ്ഞ കാര്യങ്ങൾ(direct speech),report ചെയ്യുവാൻ (indirect or reported speech)past perfect continuous ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു.
Direct speech :-Jani  said, "I have been sleeping  all afternoon."(Present perfect continuous tense)
ജെനി പറഞ്ഞു "ഞാൻ എന്നും ഉച്ചകഴിഞ്ഞു ഉറങ്ങിക്കൊണ്ടേ ഇരിക്കും" 
Indirect speech:- Jani said that she had been sleeping  all afternoon.(past perfect continuous tense)
(ജെനി പറഞ്ഞു അവൾ എല്ലാ ദിവസവും ഉച്ചകഴിഞ് ഉറങ്ങിക്കൊണ്ടേ ഇരുന്നെന്ന്)

Direct speech :-John said, "I was working late in the office.that day " (Past continuous tense)
ജോൺ പറഞ്ഞു "ഞാൻ ആ ദിവസം ഓഫീസിൽ വൈകിയും ജോലിചെയ്തു കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു" 
 Indirect speech:-John said that  he had been working late in the office that day(past perfect continuous tense)
(ജോൺ പറഞ്ഞു അവൻ ആ ദിവസo  ഓഫീസിൽ വൈകിയും ജോലിചെയ്തുകൊണ്ടേ ഇരുന്നെന്ന്)

REMEMBER- Non-continuous verbs  ഒരു continuous tenses ഉം ഉപയോഗിക്കില്ല.
Non-continuous verbs വരുമ്പോൾ  past perfect continuous ഉപയോഗിക്കേണ്ട സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ past perfect ഉപയോഗിക്കുക
eg :-
The motorcycle had been belonging to George for years before Tina bought it.-- Not Correct
The motorcycle had belonged to George for years before Tina bought it.-- Correct
(ടിന വാങ്ങുന്നതിനു മുൻപ് ആ മോട്ടോർസൈക്കിൾ വർഷങ്ങളോളം ജോർജിന്റേതായിരുന്നു)
