The past perfect tense 
പൂർണ്ണതയിൽ എത്തിയ ഒരു ഭൂതകാല സംഭവം പറയാൻ വേണ്ടിയാണു
 past perfect tense ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത്."അങ്ങിനെ നടന്നിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു","സംഭവിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു" എന്ന് കാണിക്കാൻ വേണ്ടി ഈ ടെൻസ് സഹായിക്കുന്നു.എന്നാൽ  past perfect tense പ്രധാനമായി ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത് ഭൂതകാലത്തിൽ ഒന്നിന് ശേഷമായി മറ്റൊരു കാര്യം നടന്നത് പറയുമ്പോൾ ആദ്യം നടന്ന സംഭവം സൂചിപ്പിക്കാൻ വേണ്ടിയാണ്.

(The past perfect tense indicates that an action was completed (finished or "perfected") at some point in the past before something else happened)
eg :- 
He had killed two people  (അവൻ രണ്ടു പേരെ കൊന്നിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു- അവൻ കൊന്നത് പണ്ടാണ് ,ഒരുപാടു നാളുകളായി)
The patient had died before the doctor came.(ഡോക്ടർ വരുന്നതിനു മുൻപേ രോഗി മരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു-ഇവിടെ രണ്ടു സംഭവങ്ങൾ അടുത്തടുത്ത് നടന്നതാണ് അത്തരം സാഹചര്യങ്ങൾ പറയുമ്പോൾ ആദ്യം നടന്നത് past perfect tense ൽ പറയുന്നു.)

Form of past perfect 
Subject +had + past participle
കർത്താവ് +ഹാഡ് +വെർബിന്റെ പാസ്ററ് പാർട്ടിസിപ്പൽ

 കർത്താവ് ഏകവചനമാണെങ്കിലും ,ബഹുവചനമാണെങ്കിലും 'had 'ആണ് ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത്.

Affirmative sentence :-Sub +had + past participle
She had given
(അവൾ കൊടുത്തിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു)
(she had എന്നതിനെ ചുരുക്കത്തിൽ she'd എന്നും എഴുതാം)

Negative sentence - Sub +had not  + past participle
She hadn't asked
(അവൾ ചോദിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല)
(had not =had n 't )

Interrogative sentence -Had+Sub+past participle?
Had they arrived?
(അവർ വന്നിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ലേ?)

Interrogative Negative - Had not +Sub+past participle?
Hadn't you finished?
(നീ ചെയ്തു കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ലായിരുന്നോ?)

പാസ്ററ് പെർഫെക്റ്റ് ടെൻസ് ന്റെ ഉപയോഗം (Functions of The past perfect tense 

1 .ഭൂതകാലത്തിലെ  ഒന്നിന് ശേഷം മറ്റൊന്നായി നടന്ന രണ്ടു സന്ദർഭങ്ങൾ പറയുമ്പോൾ ,ആദ്യം നടന്ന കാര്യം പറയുന്നതിന് past perfect tense ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു.( It is used to make it clear that one event happened before another in the past.

ഉദാഹരണം നോക്കാം ,ഇവിടെ രണ്ടു സന്ദർഭങ്ങൾ,ആദ്യം നടന്നത്

John had gone out when I arrived in the office.(ഞാൻ ഓഫീസിൽ എത്തിയപ്പോഴേക്കും ജോൺ പോയിരുന്നു)

He was very tired because he hadn't slept well.(അവൻ വളരെ ക്ഷീണിതനായിരുന്നു കാരണം അവൻ നന്നായി ഉറങ്ങിയിട്ടില്ലായിരുന്നു)

Important :-രണ്ടു കാര്യങ്ങളെ കുറിച്ച് പറയുമ്പോൾ വാക്യത്തിൽ അത് ഏത് ഓർഡറിൽ എഴുതിയാലും past perfect tense ഉപയോഗിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ അതാണ് ആദ്യം നടന്ന സംഭവം

Present perfect നെ അപേക്ഷിച്ചു past perfect ൽ ഒരു സമയസൂചിക കാണിക്കുന്ന വാക്കുകൾ ഉപയോഗിക്കാൻ സാധിക്കും ,(എന്നാൽ നിർബന്ധമുളള  കാര്യമല്ല) 

She had visited her relatives in 1993 before she moved in with them in 1996.(1996 ൽ അവൾ ബന്ധുക്കളുടെ ഒപ്പം പോയതിന് മുൻപ് അവരെ 1993 ലാണ് സന്ദർശിച്ചത്.

ഇവിടെ രണ്ടു സംഭവങ്ങളും simple past ലും പറയാം . രണ്ടും ശരിയാണ്.

She had visited(past perfect) her relatives  in 1993 before she moved(simple past) 
in with them in 1996.

She visited (simple past)her  relatives  in 1993 before she moved(simple past) in with them in 1996.

എന്നാൽ രണ്ടു സംഭവങ്ങൾ പറയുമ്പോൾ സമയസൂചിക തരുന്നില്ലെങ്കിൽ ആദ്യ സംഭവം past perfectൽ തന്നെ പറയണം .Simple past ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത് തെറ്റാണ്.

She never saw a bear before she moved to America . Not Correct

She had never seen a bear before she moved to America. Correct
(അമേരിക്കയിലേക്ക് മാറുന്നതിനു മുൻപ് അവൾ ഒരു കരടിയെ കണ്ടിട്ടേ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല)

2 .ഭൂതകാലത്തിൽ ഒരു  പ്രെത്യേക സമയത്തിന് മുൻപായി പൂർത്തിയായ  ഒരു സംഭവം പറയുന്നതിന്.
(To show that an action happened before a specific time in the past)

She had established her company before 2008.(അവൾ 2008 മുൻപായി  അവളുടെ കമ്പനിആരംഭിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്)

He had never played football until last week
(കഴിഞ്ഞ ആഴ്ച വരെ അവൻ ഒരിക്കൽ പോലും  ഫുട്ബോൾ കളിച്ചിട്ടില്ലായിരുന്നു)

I had fallen asleep before eight o'clock.(എട്ടുമണിക്ക് മുൻപുതന്നെ ഞാൻ ഉറങ്ങിപ്പോയിരുന്നു)

3.Past  perfect tense ന്റെ മറ്റൊരു ഉപയോഗം വരുന്നത് reported speech (indirect speech) ഉപയോഗിക്കുമ്പോളാണ്.  

ഒരാൾ നമ്മളോട് പറഞ്ഞ കാര്യം മറ്റൊരാളോട് പറയുന്നതിനാണ് reported speech എന്ന് പറയുന്നത്.
Direct speech ൽ  reporting വെർബ് past tense ലോ  present perfect tense ലോ ആണെങ്കിൽ reported speech ൽ ആകുമ്പോൾ past perfect ആയിമാറുന്നു.

Direct speech-She said, "I saw him."
(അവൾ പറഞ്ഞു "ഞാൻ അവനെ കണ്ടു)  
Indirect speech - She said that she had seen him.
(അവൾ പറഞ്ഞു അവൾ അവനെ കണ്ടിരുന്നെന്ന് )

Direct speech -He said "he  has  studied for the exam"
അവൻ പറഞ്ഞു"ഞാൻ പരീക്ഷക്ക് വേണ്ടി പഠിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട് " 
Indirect speech - He said that he had studied for the exam.(indirect speech)
അവൻ പറഞ്ഞു അവൻ പരീക്ഷക്ക് വേണ്ടി പഠിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നെന്ന്)

4 .ഭൂതകാലത്തിൽ നടക്കാതെ പോയ ഒരു ആഗ്രഹത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു പറയാനും(dissatisfaction) Past perfect tense ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു 

We wished we had purchased the winning ticket(സമ്മാനം കിട്ടിയ ടിക്കറ്റ് ഞങ്ങൾ വാങ്ങിയിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ എന്ന് ആഗ്രഹിച്ചിരുന്നു)

I wished I had told the truth(ഞാൻ ആ സത്യം പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ  എന്ന് ഞാൻ ആഗ്രഹിച്ചിരുന്നു).

She wished she had seen her friend(അവളുടെ സുഹൃത്തിനെ കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ എന്ന് അവൾ ആഗ്രഹിച്ചിരുന്നു)

5 .Past perfect tense "just","already"എന്ന വാക്കുകളും ഉപയോഗിച്ച്  പറയാറുണ്ട് . "already" "just" എന്നിവ  ഉപയോഗിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഒരു കാര്യം ചെറിയ സമയത്തിനുള്ളിൽ സംഭവിച്ചതാണ് എന്ന് മനസിലാക്കാം 

The train had already left when I arrived at the station.(ഞാൻ സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ എത്തിയപ്പോഴേക്കും  ട്രെയിൻ പോയി കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു )
She had just left the room when the police arrived.(പോലീസ് എത്തിയപ്പോൾ അവൾ റൂമിൽ നിന്നും പോയിട്ടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുള്ളു
I had just put the washing out when it started to rain.(മഴ തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ കഴുകിയ തുണി പുറത്തിട്ടിരുന്നെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുള്ളു  )
